Associate Attorney

We are seeking a smart, creative, social justice-oriented junior attorney to work on ERISA class actions, ideally with relevant finance experience. Our cases are factually complex, concern novel areas of law, rely heavily on economics and finance experts, involve wading through a corporation’s records and communications, and do a lot of good for workers and retirees. Engstrom Lee invests in talent and its partners are committed to training junior attorneys. If this excites you, keep reading.

Responsibilities (to be commensurate with experience and abilities):

  • Drafting pleadings, legal memoranda, and discovery communications.

  • Managing case deadlines.

  • Overseeing large-scale e-discovery, organizing and synthesizing complex factual information.

  • Deposing fact and expert witnesses; defending the same.

  • Working with experts, including in economics and finance.

  • Researching and investigating new targets for future cases.

  • Travel as required for litigation and conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent legal research and writing abilities.

  • Attention to detail and desire to master complex factual scenarios.

  • Highly organized; ability to juggle competing deadlines.

  • At least four years of litigation experience, including federal clerkships or appellate state clerkships. Federal class-action experience or finance experience a plus.

  • Commitment to plaintiff-side work and desire to investigate and pursue corporate wrongdoing.

  • Familiarity with finance not required, but enthusiasm for digging in and learning a must.

  • Oral advocacy, including trial experience, a plus.

 Compensation and Benefits:

  • The minimum salary for this position will be $100,000 on an annualized basis. Candidates with more experience will be compensated accordingly and are encouraged to apply.

  • Fully remote work policy.

  • Generous benefits presently include unlimited paid vacation and paid sick time off, flexible schedule, employer contributions to 401(k), eligibility to participate in the firm’s discretionary bonuses.
